Can I have a used electric vehicle?

Here at The Electric Car Scheme we champion the use of second hand electric vehicles. Our mission is to support the government’s goal in helping the nation to go green, therefore elongating the life of an electric vehicle contributes to a greener environment.

We currently offer a small range of second-hand electric vehicles through our "Carpool" service. Once an employee terminates their lease (via redundancy, resignation, dismissal or dismissal for cause etc) we will add this vehicle to our carpool database. We assess the condition of the vehicle and should there be any damage beyond wear and tear the previous employee will be liable for the cost of the repair.

The monthly lease cost will remain the same for the employer, as this cost is charged by the leasing company and the new driver is taking over the existing lease. However, there may be adjustments made to the monthly salary sacrifice amount should the new employee's salary differ to the original driver’s salary. The new employee taking over the lease will be informed of the monthly salary sacrifice amount before confirming their order.

Should the vehicle need to be novated over to another company, ie if the new employee works for a different company to original business lease contract owner, The Electric Car Scheme will manage the novation process (moving a lease from one company to another). We will acquire all paper work needed to facilitate the novation and liaise with scheme co-ordinators to have this signed by company directors. As the process is slightly different from our normal leases, we may require additional information from the directors to complete the novation. The whole novation process can take between 2-3 months to complete, however we can also arrange for the car to be transferred to the new driver as soon a practical, before the novation is complete. For more information regarding the novation process please see the article Novations.

Should the vehicle transfer to another employee with the same company holding the original lease agreement, no novation will be required and a simple transfer will take place after the new employee signs their ECAA.
